Last February 19th, skiers and snowboarders made 100 downhill runs in a single day, at Ski Mont Gabriel! They raised 36 481 $ for the benefit of Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Quebec Division
An invitation from Jasey-Jay Anderson
For the first time, Jasey-Jay Anderson, world champion snowboarder and participant in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, supported the MS Society by acting as patron of this event: “The participants will raise money to beat multiple sclerosis, a disease that affects from 13,000 to 18,000 Quebecers, mainly between the ages of 15 and 40. These are young people who, like me, have big dreams they hope to achieve.”

Background
In 2003, Johanne Pichette, a businesswoman in the Laurentians, set up the very first edition of the MS Ski Marathon with her family and a group of friends. She is a real ski buff who decided to organize an activity that would combine her passion and the cause of MS, which is particularly important to her because someone she is close to has this disease.
For four years, from 50 to 75 skiers gathered on the slopes at Mont Chantecler in Ste-Adèle in the Laurentians and challenged themselves to complete 100 runs in a single day, in teams of five or six, while raising money for MS research and services. In total, over $125,000 has been donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Quebec Division.
In five years, the MS Ski Marathon has metamorphosed from just a gleam in the eye of its founder, Johanne Pichette, to a truly significant event. There is no doubt that this fundraising event for the benefit of the MS Society has impressive potential.
On Friday, February 13, 2009, some 50 skiers defied superstition and faced the slopes at Ski Mont-Gabriel, Ste-Adèle, in the fifth edition of the MS Ski Marathon. During the course of the day, they brilliantly rose to the challenge of making 100 runs in a limited time. The event raised $23,500; since the first edition, as mentioned above, the MS Ski Marathon has raised more than $125,000 for the MS Society.
At the end of the day, four teams were honoured for various exploits. The champion fundraising team was the Aventuriers du concombre masqué, who raised a total of $3,362. The Ski-don team received the medal for the team that had made the greatest number of runs; they descended Mont-Gabriel an amazing 241 times! The “armchair ski” team was none other than Ze Team, while team MSSI, all dressed in red, won the award for the best display of team spirit!
